The possibility is always present that an enterprise
may possess an asset or engage in some activity that
generates a cost of risk much higher than what that asset
or activity produces. If we are to face such a case,
the recommendation will surely be to try to eliminate the
asset or the activity. If it cannot be done, then our
recommendation will be to utilize a non-insurance method.
If none of the above works, then we shall try to assist
our client in reducing his risks through the effective
utilization of loss control techniques. After all, loss
control is the single most important activity in reducing
the cost of risk. Not only will it reduce assumed losses,
but a well designed and executed loss control program
will induce underwriters to compete for the business
and reduce costs. In addition, in times of hard underwriting
markets, a good loss control program may mean the difference
between being able to acquire insurance or not be able
to procure any at all. The following are some of the
